The mighty Brian MacFarlane, Starlift Steel Orchestra and Island People Mas were some of the bands to pass through Victoria Square yesterday afternoon.Masqueraders were slow to move through Adam Smith Square, but when they did, they were not afraid to let loose, dancing under a blazing hot sun.
And it did not matter to mas players that this is one of the shortest Carnival seasons in years as it probably invigorated revellers to enjoy every minute of the annual show.MacFarlane, six-time Band of the Year winner, outfitted his masqueraders in white with the theme, Joy: The Finale and moved passed the judges around lunch time.Following MacFarlane's sea of white costumes was Island People, under the theme Re-Humanize for Trinidad Carnival 2013.
Then came Showtime Trinidad, which paid tribute to the late Lord Kitchener under the theme Kitch: Man, Music, Legend.Of course, there were those who used the opportunity to engage in political picong and one band with no more than 15 members all dressed in black carried placards cards reading "People's Pardership" and "Float dis Boat" and "T&T For Sale."Around midafternoon, businessman Robert Amar's Charm mas band Charm paraded before the judges dressed in orange.
