Chaguanas Carnival celebrations kicked off on Carnival Tuesday shortly after 1 pm with Reckless Sailors being the first band to cross the stage. The masqueraders looked more like a J'Ouvert band and the band's leader had to be cautioned about his use of coarse language to describe characters in the band.
Orlando Nagessar, the Carnival Committe chairman, said "2014 has been good so far, large crowds, plenty mas. This is a fantastic year for Chaguanas Carnival. There have been changes in the route. Ramsaran Street was successful for J'Ouvert, I think this venue is here to stay. The Junior Carnival, parade of bands, J'Ouvert, steelpan and queen show was a success.
Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan said he was impressed with the efforts of the Carnival Committee and the role the committe played in getting young people involved.
