Their appreciation of world culture only went as far as Ravi B and Bunji, maybe in their own way, a meeting of the Ganges and the Nile. Of course we need to know our own local culture and customs but there is a whole big wide world out there and the "currency" of protocols, customs and behaviour in developed nations, is politeness, decency, courtesy, and propriety in word and deed. As Minshal has mirrored our society and shown us, we do indeed celebrate the sacred and the profane, mixing them equally with each other to the point where we no longer know or care about the difference, all rolled up into one writhing, sweaty ball of humanity comprising the good, the bad and the ugly where Mancrab is King and every five years we watch "The River Come Down" washing away the old and bringing in a new version of the same old thing, as we stain our fingers, well aware that how we vote is not how we party, because the more things change, the more they remain the same, in our very own sweet T&T-A nation of "Philistines."
