Murder suspect shot dead by cops
A 29-year-old man was shot dead by police on Saturday night at Back Street, Tunapuna. He has been identified as Jason Bhagwandeen, who, police said, was a murder suspect. According to reports, at around 8.45 pm on Saturday night, officers of the North-eastern Division Task Force went to a house at Back Street, Tunapuna. As soon as the officers walked through the front gate of the house, Bhagwandeen, who was armed with a 38 revolver, fired two shots at them, then jumped over a wall on the western side of the house.
The lawmen called on Bhagwandeen to stop, but he fired more shots at the officers. The officers returned fire and Bhagwandeen was shot. He was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad assisted in the exercise, which was led by Sgt Roger Alexander. Detectives, however, said Bhagwandeen was wanted for larceny of motor vehicles, murder and several shootings.
