In sum, the country believed in May 2010, that we could elect a government which would represent us all. Delivering on these expectations is the major challenge of the government. In addition, improving the quality of lives of citizens must be the primary objective but, for sustained national development, transformation and protection of the institutions of the country must be simultaneously undertaken.
Lest this be construed as an abstract concept, the guarantee of a certain recurring level or amount of funding for the judiciary, for example, would a major symbolic and progressive move. Given the current and recurring impasse with the labour movement, the development of a system which prevents these ridiculous incidents from occurring on an annual basis and which results in the presentation of reasonable positions in an atmosphere of true consultation, dialogue and compromise. Ultimately, it is quite likely that all would agree with the Prime Minister that "we move forward together as one nation, one people working together for a better, brighter Trinidad and Tobago."
