That day taught us something else though. It took some people four to five hours to get out of Port-of-Spain as the advisory became widespread. If there is an evacuation strategy devised by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management, then it is one of the best kept secrets in this country. We have been asking to see an evacuation plan for the capital city as far back as the dustbin bombings and to date there has been no publication of any definitive strategy. What the terrible disasters in Japan and Haiti have taught us is that we are going to be dying in very large numbers in this country so you better make sure you are square with your God of choice because when disaster strikes in T&T it is every man for himself.
