Trinidad is all set to host the Caribbean Nations Racing Challenge on December 3, at the Santa Rosa Race Course in Arima. This was revealed by Chris Armond, who has operated in managerial positions in Barbados, T&T and in his own Jamaica, and is currently president of the WI Thoroughbred Racing Authority. Armond noted that plans in detail have been made for the presentation of the day's racing, live by TVG to Caribbean and the racing world. Not only will the sport benefit enormously but the country will be shown in the most beneficial manner in a sporting event that is internationally popular.
ISS, which televises English and South African racing here and Australian, Hong Kong racing and other sporting events all over the world, will be showing the events of Breeders Cup Day live, internationally, an advertisement for T&T that is invaluable. The prize money, expected to be US$2 million, will be worthy of the event and racing competitors from other Caribbean countries-notably Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia, Guyana and Antigua-will be sending horses and many racing fans here for the event. Plans are for the invitation of world class jockeys-among them Frankie Dettori-to come and challenge our own champions and to holiday in the region.
T&T's Emile Ramsammy and Jamaica's Rajeev Maragh, high in the rank of leading jockeys in Canada are also expected to be here. One of the difficulties being addressed is the need to limit admission on the day to ensure that all who do go to the racing will be comfortable in surroundings that are not overcrowded.
Every care will be taken to ensure that the catering will be of the highest standard.
