I commend the relevant authorities for brightening road signs and markings throughout the country, to the benefit of motorists and pedestrians alike. However, I have some concerns about a particular road marking located on Fifth Street in Barataria, close to the Sixth Avenue traffic lights, in both the east- and west-bound lanes.
The marking is supposed to read "No Right Turn" but because it is written incorrectly, a motorist will actually read the reverse: "Turn Right No." While those of us who are familiar with the area will not be challenged by this, the authorities need to spare a thought for visitors and others who aren't accus- tomed to traversing that route.
I would like to think that there exists some kind of international standard for painting road markings appropriately, to reduce or eliminate altogether any ambiguity for drivers. But I stand to be corrected on this. In the meantime, I really think the markings ought to be changed.
