We not of that, Dr Wayne Kublalsingh. So stop this nonsense, this politricks, this farce and go eat a food like everybody else.
When last somebody fight and die for a cause in this country? Earlier this year? Last year? Last ten years? Yet every day in the papers for the 30 years of my life somebody complaining about something. One government organisation to cover all the arts? Nah! Flooding at the fall of a raindrop? Nah! No brain drill in the hospital? Nah! Smelter in the countryside? Nah! Crime in we front yard? Nah! Disease in the neo-natal ward? Nah!
Sorry, I could go on but, you know, is a long list. We not of that, Dr Kublalsingh, so get off your high horse. We not of the "burning monk" or Gandhi or the vendor in Tunisia who light himself afire and start the whole Arab Spring that bring down government after government. That is them. Them of that. Them is proper causes.
We not of "environmental preservation" or "protection of agricultural lands" or "maintaining the livelihood of the poor and the rural." Out of sight and out of mind. We talking the most rural people who could easily get some education and an office job in town like everybody else. We talking people in the UNC heartland who vote for what they get.
Help the poor people right there in East Port-of-Spain. They get a free work and free money and free training for votes and all the politicians like Hypolite gone down there while they burning tyres in the road. You didn't see them on TV talking about this "insulting" free money outside their government housing? Them is people we should be helping, not people in place we never see before.
We not of that, Dr Kublalsingh, so don't be playing Erin Brockovich. We see a leatherback turtle, we get on it, ride it and take a picture for Facebook. You know how much dead dog and old fan and KFC box I fling in river over the years?
You ever see the Guaracara River? That river thick and black since I born because it give my father work. Ever since I small I smelling fumes from Texaco, then Trintoc, then Petrotrin, and I remember that without them fumes my father would have had no work. I know a man who know me since I small, who live and work and die in that oil refinery. (You know, "industrial accident.") It is the sacrifice we make for prosperity.
Let the President's House crumble. All them old buildings these so-called environmentalists making a fuss about, who are they benefitting? Who getting food on their table from them? We go remember them from stamps in the post office.
These so-called environmentalists ain't see Napa north and Napa south? They ain't see all the pictures of the Port-of-Spain skyline light up in the night with the Waterfront to house the Parliament and thing? The pretty houses on the Northern Range?
We not of that Dr Kublalsingh, so stop monopolising the cameras. We burn rubbish and bring we children to stand up in front the cameras to make a point. Then we go home..and eat! We don't play we "fasting." Who in this country does do that? Why you trying to make yourself into some martyr? Who you feel you is? Somebody who better than the rest of us? You is a UWI man.
You teach literature, what you doing playing environmentalist? Why pick-and-choose your cause? The minute you smell a Sauce doubles you go stop that fast. Because we not made of finer materials. We could cause "civil disobedience" and "shut down the country" (although it never actually shut down) and congregate in "The People's University": that is protest. We play mas, we don't fast. We drink and drive fast, we don't fast. We follow our leaders, we don't run fast.
We not of that, Dr Kublalsingh, so stop trying to make us look bad. Stop trying to make us out like we are a no-care people, like a people without a cause, like a people without principles. We honour the people who do good for our country. They does get national award and thing, albeit plenty of them "posthumously." Look how we honour heroes like Wendy and Keston. What these poor people by the lagoon do for the country?
All these misguided people who making mas with their "principles" like the late senator who say she against the death penalty even after she husband and sister and mother get murdered-misguided. I always remember my teacher in my Catholic high school say, "if you against the death penalty, wait till somebody in your family get murdered and then you will see." The late senator didn't see? Misguided.
We not of that, Dr Kublalsingh, so stop making it seem as though this country have problems. This country sweet. We love up we country. It don't have nothing that worth dying for. So stop playing as though your love bigger than we love. Stop making us look bad.
