The Facebook social network was abuzz yesterday after a list was posted purporting to be the results of last Sunday's International Groovy and Power Soca Monarch semifinal.
The post named ten finalists in each category, including SuperBlue, Blaxx, Benjai, Swappi, Patrice Roberts, Lil Bits and Talpree.
Karena Sukhu, media officer for the promoter, Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts (CPF), said the post was a hoax and the official results would be released by midday today.
In response to the bogus post yesterday evening, CPF posted:
"Please be advised that the official lists of finalists for the International Soca Monarch Competition Soca 21 Edition in the Power and Groovy Categories for Fantastic Friday, February 8, have not been released by the Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts.
"We have been made aware of unconfirmed results that are circulating the web and are advising artistes, fans, sponsors, media houses and other interest parties that this information is grossly inaccurate and not sanctioned by our organisation."
The final of the competition takes place on February 8 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain. It is the 21st edition of the competition won then by SuperBlue.
