In his short tenure as head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, with his passionate homilies and stern pronouncements, has stepped on toes, raised eyebrows and caused a great amount of uneasiness among his own Vatican chieftains, cardinals, archbishops, priests and many world leaders. He is obviously determined to make a difference.
As he grows in his papacy, the Argentina-born Pope from the Jesuit Order is becoming more and more popular, not only among his own flock around the world but people in general, and maybe that is why the prestigious TIME magazine has named him Person of the Year, a title he so richly deserves in today's world of greed and corruption.
Pope Francis is not afraid to move away from church doctrine and he is prepared to tackle the serious economic problems which now face the world. In a recent apostolic exhortation, he said, "Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world.
