Besides the problems with pronouns, there are some difficulties with some verbs, eg to lie/to lay
1. There is the unusual verb to lie (down):
a. Present tense: I/you/we/they lie down on the couch, he/she/ it lies down
b. Past tense: I/you/we/they lay in bed he/she/it lay down
c. Past Participle: I/you/we/they have lain, he/she/it has lain on the couch
.
2. To lay (the table):
a. present tense: I, you, we, they lay the table; he/she lays the table
b. past tense: I/you/we/they/he/she laid the table,
c. past participle: I/you/we they have laid the table, he/she has laid the table.
3. To lay (an egg)
a. Present tense: The hen lays an egg.
b. Past tense: The hen laid an egg
c. Past participle: The hen has laid an egg.
4. Infinitives of verbs are, eg to run, to sing, to wait, to sleep.
