Today, May 25, 2014, we begin the final year of the People's Partnership administration. Last week, May 20, also marked a year since the disclosure, by Leader of the Opposition Dr Keith Rowley, of the alleged e-mail exchanges among senior government officials and the announcement by the Prime Minister that the allegations would be sent to the police.
Not much has been heard since, but given that the perjury allegations against Calder Hart are still an open case, we can expect as much justice as we are likely to have over Dana Seetahal's murder. At the time of writing, there was also no indication of whether Sport Minister Anil Roberts had submitted his resignation or been fired, but the issue is now certainly academic.
It is clear that the vast majority of the population, as seen in the THA elections, the Chaguanas West by-election, the local government election and the St Joseph by-election, has lost confidence in the People's Partnership (PP) administration. Whenever we believe that things could not be worse, somehow a member of the Cabinet appears to do something that confounds the public's already low expectations.
