The comments reported in the media about two young boys who were exterminated by gunmen in their Morvant home were very telling. Residents who knew of the boys processed this horrific incident as the predictable outcome of two lives that jumped the rails. In a society rife with crime and an absence of accountability, these children got their comeuppance and that's that.
Whether these boys flirted with death through purported antisocial behaviour or were indeed "good boys" as characterised by their distraught mother is irrelevant. No society should accept the execution of a nine-year-old and a 15-year-old, regardless of the lives they led.
On the heels of this terrible tragedy came news of the killing of 19-year-old Shakam De Revenaux, whose battered body was discarded in a drain along the Lady Young Road like a soft-drink bottle. The police have floated the theory that this killing may have roots in domestic intrigue.
