When it comes to the relationship between the US and Iraq, the Americans could borrow a line from The Godfather–"Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in."It seems the possibility of the US returning to Iraq, once again with soldiers in the ground, may well turn into a reality.
Last week, I told you about Isis–Islamic State in Iraq and Syria–an offshoot of al Qaeda, and why we need to pay attention to this jihadi organisation that is gaining control in the Middle East. It turns out my prediction was sadly, completely correct. In just the last few days, Isis has gained control of Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq, and of Tikrit, the home town of Saddam Hussein and incredibly close to the capital, Baghdad.
We know more than 500,000 people have had to flee their homes, fearing the hell that will descend upon them if they have to live under Isis' Sharia law.Isis fighters say they are close to seizing Baghdad. As though that city has not lived through enough anguish, now it's on the verge of falling into jihadi hands.
