Here, the eclectic mural of life is as usual with ventures or adventures of ordinary folk spiced with bacchanal. This long weekend, occasioned by Labour Day and Corpus Christi holidays, afforded respite from the tediousness of the same old, same old politics. But murders continue, and the deaths of children have increased through negligence, accidents, abuse and regrettably by guns, including the guns of police officers.
Often, after a person is killed, the public learns from police officers that the victim was known to them and was a gang member. The police may have obtained that information from people in the community, but unless those people are willing to testify in court, the information may not be admissible. Therefore, the evidence needed to arrest these children and take them into custody before they are killed is often lacking.
In any event, assuming there is evidential material to detain them, where will the police put them given the lack of suitable detention centres for children? So if the "dogs of war" are unleashed on child criminals, they are likely to be killed or incarcerated with adult criminal tutors.
