‘Twas the lawlessness before Xmas…
’Twas a month before Christmas and all through the House, no Representatives were sleeping—all man had a grouse.
Yesterday’s sitting, from beginning to end, had lots of “hot” stuff—though not for all of them.
Parliamentarians sat chatting, awaiting the Mace, the Speaker’s approach and start of the grace.
Government MPs moved with much care. In hopes that their boss would see they’re aware.
Most didn’t dare tell it. But all of them know: after he called troops to order Wednesday, no more big boo-boos.
He wants them to prep for the polls up ahead. His “peeps” say they must be close with the “ground”–no swell head.
He wants a report from each every month and he wants a clear road. No more stinking bumps.
Opposition, conversing off to the side. With prospects of Kamla’s next term, alight in some eyes.
Her rival Christine, unperturbed, also did shine. Not giving a hoot that licks is in line.
She made her point. So let it be. Tomorrow for both, a “race” they would see.
Only one lady will emerge Queen Bee. So neither’s really bothering about Carolyn S.B.
If Caro did COP small turnout for votes, Kamla tomorrow may be in same boat. Why worry to come out, supporters may think.
With Jearlean, the new “Jack” and Vasant aside, their Kamla’s always UNC’s source of pride.
But yesterday’s debate: sides were well primed.
Opposition business on table and Roody on floor.
Armed for the spotlight Roody had come, wielding buss mark, left, right and then some.
He leaned to the east. He leaned to the west. He looked to PoS North and sprung out his best.
Straight to the Government, Roody did mouth, making PNM’s best boys, straight and well, out.
He thundered, he teased, stopping short of a doubt. He was smokin’ on fire—and Tim helped him out.
To the top of the Chamber, and press corps he played. Giving numbers and dates—but not giving way.
All as a one, PNM expression bespoke.
Randall, their voice, giving life to their thoughts: Don’t you, my friend, be feeling too high. Just wait for a while, ‘cause you’ll be tried!
“Moneylall” was the name Colm had called him before. But by then, there were much more.
Slew of retorts washed off of his back. Roody wasn’t taking on any flack.
His eyes lit up when he hit the right spot. But the glare from his targets—oh crap, it was hot!
But, the boss had already spoken that day. Rowley, PM had no words of play. He buffed at the Beetham. He blew them all out. No one’s above it—the law’s all about.
Blocking the road and blaming po-po, Beetham had vented and ranted galore.
Shots that were fired did not sit too well. So PM manned up soon as issues had swelled.
He had to, he knew. It couldn’t go on.
No “Spanish” or “Chemist” or barrel of gun, would make PNM heartland a place to run from.
PM spoke of the patterns. Danger is here. No “Government of the street”! T&T steer clear.
No “Dudus” example should set in down here. Beetham’s no Tivoli—we much nicer than there.
Government as team, will hope that the test will quickly pass once they do their darned best.
But UNC’s push for them to fall flat, is something they know could take hold, just like “that”.
Whichever the side, J Public may say, all that we want is to get through the day.
Once there’s peace without need for the gun, it matters no scene, who handles the Government “run”.
Quick as they can, Nikki hopes that they do, make the effort redoubled, push to come through.
If not, she may fear, we could well lose the fight.
Then nobody’ll be able to say “…to all a good night!”
