Stabbed 13 times at his birthday lime
Akil Thomas, 26, befriended a 23-year-old man on the social networking site, Facebook, about a year ago. On Sunday, he decided to go one step further and invited the young man to his birthday lime, which took place at the Cocorite Fishing Depot, near Peake’s. Instead Thomas, of East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, was attacked by a group of men and stabbed 13 times.
The incident occurred at about 8.45 pm and he tried to escape by going into the sea but his attackers eventually forced him back on land, then robbed and stabbed him. Thomas said he believed the incident was a set-up and added he was lucky to be alive because he pretended to be dead. After his attackers left the scene, he made his way to the Western Main Road where he was taken to the hospital. Investigations are continuing.
