A La Romaine man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old schoolgirl was yesterday granted $50,000 bail.Jerry Yasin, 51, was also warned to have absolutely no contact with the child who came to court with her mother yesterday.Yasin appeared Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Court, charged with grievous sexual assault.He is accused of assaulting the child while she was in a car in La Romaine on June 20.
The girl subsequently made a report to the police and an investigation was done.Yasin was arrested by WPC Genevieve Saith of the San Fernando Police Station. He was not represented by an attorney at yesterday's hearing.Court prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said Yasin had previous convictions for larceny.The magistrate was concerned about the distance the accused lived from the victim, but was told that they did not live near to each other.
Yasin was then granted bail and the child was relieved from attending court, until needed, so she could attend school.The matter was adjourned to July 23.
