Three armed robbers from east Trinidad were arrested after carjacking a taxi driver early yesterday morning. The suspects were arrested by Northern Division police in Arouca moments after they robbed taxi driver Curtis Quaccoo at gunpoint in Arima around 2.10 am.
Police said Quaccoo, 52, of La Horquetta was parked on the Port-of-Spain taxi stand at Green Street, Arima, when the three suspects approached.
One pointed a gun at Quaccoo while his two accomplices robbed him of his wallet, cellphones and jewelry. The men then drove away in his green Mazda 323 taxi.Quaccoo reported the incident to the Arima Police Station and an all points bulletin was issued.Within half an hour, police spotted the taxi driving near the Victory Heights Development in Arouca.
They searched the car and found a 9 mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition as well as Quaccoo's belongings. The suspects, ages 26, 27 and 32, from Tunapuna, Arima and Five Rivers, were detained at the Arouca Police Station up to late yesterday.They are expected to be put on several identification parades before being charged and taken to court.Senior Supt David Abraham, Insp Mark Maharaj, and PCs Lackhan and Ramdial were all involved in the exercise.
