Northern Division police retrieved an illegal firearm from a man at a bar yesterday afternoon.Sgt Prabhoo and Constables Miguel and Kingston, under the supervision of Snr Supt David Abraham and Insp Mark Maharaj, were on mobile patrol in the Malabar area at around 2 pm, when they entered the Time Out Bar.A patron at the bar aroused the officers' suspicion by glancing at them repeatedly and fidgeting with his pants. When the man was searched, a .38 revolver and three rounds of ammunition were found on him.
The 30-year-old man, from Phase 4, Malabar, was arrested and will be taken before an Arima magistrate tomorrow.Two weeks ago, acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams praised the division for its success in gun recoveries and a reduction in homicides. Williams said the plan used in that division would be copied and shared with other divisions.
