Homicide detectives are seeking the public's assistance to identify a partially burnt and decomposing body found in Arouca yesterday.The T&T Guardian was told that shortly after midday, Northern Division police received a report from Garden Village, Arouca residents that there had been a strong odour in their area over the past few days and they believed it was a body.A group of police led by Sgt Charles went to the area and found the body in a bushy area 50 feet off Savannah Drive.
Investigators could not give a preliminary cause of death for the victim, an African male, because a large portion of the body was badly burnt.The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where a post mortem will be performed after it is identified.Investigators are also expected to scan the Police Service's missing persons' database in an effort to identify him.
