Eight illegal guns have been taken off the streets by police during separate police exercises throughout the country in the past week.On Monday, at about 5.30 pm, officers of the Barataria Police Station, under the supervision of Insp Ramsook and Cpl Ali, recovered and seized a German-made .38 revolver loaded with six rounds of ammunition. It was found in an empty lot in El Socorro. No one was arrested.
In the Northern Division, police recovered two illegal guns and an undisclosed amount quantity of ammunition, bringing the number of guns taken off the streets in that division to 104.
Also, on Monday at about 1 am a party of officers, including Insp Mac Maraj, Cpl Mc Call and Cpl Modeste, searched a house at Portugal Avenue, Cocorite Road, Arima, where they found and seized, a homemade shotgun and two 12-gauge cartridges. A couple– a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman–were arrested in connection with that find.
In a separate incident, at about 11 pm on Monday, the same party of officers acted on information received and intercepted an orange-coloured car along Blanchissuese Road, Arima. The vehicle was searched and two 12 gauge shotguns and 17, 12-guage catridges found.
Police also found the carcass of a lappe. The three occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested and charged for possession of an illegal gun and ammunition and for being in possession of a prohibited animal during the close of the hunting season.Last Thursday, officers from the Central Division Task Force searched a man who was standing along the Old Southern Main Road, Savonetta, and found a 9-mm pistol and four rounds of 9-mm ammunition.
On Friday at about 6.45 am officers searched a house at Montrose, Chaguanas, where they found a 40 calibre pistol and an undisclosed quantity of assorted ammunition. A 27-year-old man was arrested.
