An argument between two men in Longdenville on Saturday night ended with a 41-year-old plumber being shot dead. Up to yesterday, Central Division police could not find Clifton "Mongman" Alleyne John's killer, who is believed to be a drug dealer in the community.
According to reports, around 6.45 pm, residents of Christian Drive, off Paradath Street, overheard a loud argument between two men. Within minutes, several explosions rang out and when they checked, neighbours found John lying face down, bleeding from several gunshot wounds.
Police and ambulance were called in but by the time Snr Supt Johnny Abraham, ASP Brandon John, Sgt Jitindra Toolaram and homicide officers arrived, John was already dead. The body was viewed by DMO Dr Ravi Kawal who ordered an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday. It was the second murder in two days in Longdenville. Police yet to identify the partially burnt body of a man found in a drain along Fletcher Road, Ravine Sable on Friday.
Police said the man appeared to be in his early twenties, had low hair and was shirtless. He was wearing red denim trousers, sneakers and a gold chain.
Men robbed in taxis
A 30-year-old information technology technician was beaten and robbed while travelling in a PH taxi to Chaguanas on Saturday.Police said that around 1.30 am, Kawal Bunsee of Longdenville Old Road, Longdenville, boarded a silver Nissan Sunny B14 along Southern Main Road, Dow Village, California and asked to be taken toChaguanas.
He told police that he entered the car while talking on his phone and there were three male occupants and one female. But instead of heading to Chaguanas, the driver turned in the opposite direction and one of the men grabbed his phone and began to beat him. His phone, a Samsung Galaxy valued at $2000 was stolen along with a $700 silver chain, a $350 wrist watch, $200 cash and several bank cards, he told police. He was taken to Pranz Gardens, California where he was dropped off and told to run.
In a similar incident around 8 pm Friday, Shastri Ramdeen, 23, of Sum Sum Hill, Claxton Bay got into a white Nissan Sunny B14, licensed PBO 866, in front of the California Chinese Grocery. Two other men enter at the same time.
On reaching the Savonetta Fire Station, the driver went off route and one of the passengers began beating him. The men took his gold hand band, a Samsung Galaxy Note valued at $2000, a $900 wrist watch, a deck of Yu-gi-oh cards and $500 cash, he told police. He was then thrown out of the vehicle in the Phoenix Park. WPC Maharaj is investigating both crimes.
Cops search formissing panel van
Police are searching for a white Nissan panel van which was stolen in Claxton Bay on Saturday night. Around 10 pm, the owner, Charles Bailey, a welder of Chocolate City Avenue, Sum Sum Hill, Claxton Bay, parked his van, PAK 1970 opposite Ramlogan's Hardware at the corner of Milton Road and went to a nearby bar.
When he returned around 12.15 am, the vehicle valued at $40,000 was missing. In the vehicle was an Alcatel mobile phone valued at $140 and other personal documents. Central Division Task Force and Couva police searched for the van but up until yesterday, it could not be found. WPC Atkinson is investigating.
