So then what is the purpose of having intelligence agencies if its legislative authority is not being fulfilled, but appears to act as a "buffer zone" for the participation in the lucrative trade, continuation of a parallel economic infrastructure and increased incentives to some in the financial and corporate world, and the their support system in the various arms of national security. Is it not a fact that our national security is compromised on all fronts when these clandestine and surreptitious activities occur? Are we willing and prepared to fully address the contentious issues of intelligence gathering in the realm of transnational organised crime for the benefit of the country, or for whose benefit do these intelligence agencies serve? How have we in light of our international obligations contributed meaningfully and effectively to international peace, justice and security during the past decade?Notably, have we examined the pernicious and adverse effects of the narco-trafficking and illegal weapons trade on (a) families and their support system, (b) impact on our nation's hospitals, mental institutions and social development sectors, (c) increasing murder rates and its subsequent effects on society as a whole, and the exorbitant costs attached to these matters?
