The right to challenge an extradition request is in alignment with Trinidad and Tobago's commitment to basic human rights and the rigour of the response by Galbaransingh and Ferguson will ultimately prove to be a valuable test of both our democracy and our legal and constitutional procedures. As protracted as it has been, these legal challenges will serve as a benchmark for a deeper understanding of the situation as it stands today for this country's capacity to respond to established agreements for the process of law when it crosses international boundaries. Whatever the outcome, we trust in the fairness and capacity of the justice system.
The ultimate decision of the courts in this matter, therefore, should be acceptable to all those with interests in this matter.
