At the best of times, a tourist destination has to be ultrasensitive to how it is portrayed abroad in societies and markets from which visitors come. In these the worst of times for Tobago's tourism, as well as being an economically challenging time for leisure travel, it becomes imperative that a destination guards its reputation with fear, trembling and proactive measures. This is a responsibility for the THA and the central government in Port-of-Spain. It would be a scandalous dereliction of responsibility for the livelihoods of thousands of people for the Tobago government and the central government to be playing the political blame game at this point. Foreign visitors do not know the difference between the two and do not care anyhow. However, we should not lose sight of the fundamental reason for the Greens going to the international press: they were victims of the increasing criminal acts against visitors to Tobago. As is well known, there have been several savage acts against tourists in Tobago and there is not the slightest indication that it is any safer now than it was when those visitors were assaulted and murdered. Tobago really needs to get its tourism act together if the island wants to continue to "eat a food and drink a juice."
