Tributes continue flow in for the late Sir Ellis Clarke, the country's first president, as a condolences book was opened at San Fernando City Corporation yesterday. "A true leader, a great man, a great leader," were some of the words used to describe Sir Ellis by members of the public who signed the book. Patricia Springer, of Harmony Hall, the first to sign, commented: "A great leader who lived life to the fullest."
A corporation official said San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray and her council were expected to sign the book around 10 am today. Sir Ellis died at his Fairways, Maraval, home last Thursday two days after his 93rd birthday. He had suffered massive stroke on November 24. The date of his funeral is yet to be announced but the former President is to be given a state funeral.
