Negotiations should be taking place with diplomats in Port-of-Spain from countries like the United States, Canada, France, China and Great Britain which are likely to have access to airlift to take their nationals out of the country. If these negotiations fall through or are not likely to come to fruition in a timely manner, the Government should consider chartering an aircraft to bring the nationals out.
The goal must be to ensure that they are transported out of Egypt and flown to safety. Leaving them to fend for themselves in a hostile country which may be on the brink of imploding into real anarchy is simply not an option. Given the generosity of spirit of Trinidadians to their countrymen in dire need, it may even be possible for some local charitable organisation to organise a fund-raising project aimed at bringing the stranded 22 home.
