In this innovative expansion of the calypso, Sparrow, while demonstrating his own genius, was creating space for soca and all its present derivatives to grow. More than what any government official, diplomat or government has done, Sparrow has brought recognition to this country and one of its two premier art forms without any dependent leaning on the State and government for assistance. All of the above have merely given a glimpse into the contribution of this cultural icon. In these his golden years as he remains vibrant, still capable of engaging and infusing a new generation with calypso. Trinidad and Tobago needs to recognise this transcending gift to the nation and to suitably and constantly honour and praise King Sparrow.
