Deadline for payment looms but cashier on vacation
Since the beginning of the semester on September 2, students turning up to pay school fees at the Costaatt South Campus on Sutton Street, have been turned away because the cashier is currently on vacation leave. The deadline for the payment of fees is September 27, after which a penalty fee will be implemented for students paying late.
Nobody seems to know when the cashier will be returning or even when a replacement will arrive and the only advice students are being given is to go to the Port-of-Spain or Sangre Grande Campus to pay. When inquiring about the late fee that would be implemented when the cashier does return, officials at the campus are saying that it would be the fault of the student for not making payment on time.
During August 12-15, students were forced to attend a massive registration process at the Centre of Excellence, which only proved to be a waste of time because there was no order or organisation. The computerised numbering system that was put in place failed because the computer system went down. Students were unable to register for classes due to the IT failure. A process that should have taken an hour or two took an entire day and students were advised to return the next day. Now when students are making every effort to ensure fees are paid on time there are many signs at the Sutton Street Campus stating that the cashier is closed until further notice.
