As her grieving family and the country send murder victim Dana Seetahal, SC, to her final rest today, the motive and the killers behind her brutal and untimely death last Sunday remain a mystery. An anxious public is eager to find out: was it a robbery that was aborted? Was it a carefully planned execution? Was a hit put on her life by some criminal mastermind in jail who bore a grudge against her for putting him there?
Was someone trying to silence her because of something she might say or do in the course of her work as a special state prosecutor? Does it mean that other law officers–symbols and guardians of the rule of law and order–are also now at risk? Or was her killing more random? Might any well-to-do-seeming person, heading home after an evening's relaxation, be equally at risk?
All these are valid questions and the media have been trying, on behalf of the population, to ascertain at least some of the answers to these and related questions from the police. The results have been frustrating and distressing for all concerned.
