The statement by Senator Camille Robinson-Regis that the public discussion about the Judges Salaries and Pensions (Amendment) Bill and the Retiring Allowances (Legislative) Amendment Bill "has resulted in some rats coming out of their holes" is most unwelcome.
The fact that every democracy is founded on the premise that there must always be views expressed for or against issues in the public domain ought not to be compromised by public officials seeking to hold higher public office making denigrating remarks about those who disagree with them.
Senator Robinson-Regis has held positions as an MP, minister of government, High Commissioner and now Senator. She is no stranger to the worlds of controversy and diplomacy. She has had her own controversies in public life, but her comment that was largely directed against those who opposed the position of her party on these bills was more than one word too many.
