Jazz singer and well-known family law attorney, Alice Frederica Daniel, will be the main attraction at an evening of romantic jazz, scheduled for this evening at the Aura Restaurant, Cipriani Boulevard. The show is titled A Night in December, and will begin at 8 pm. Daniel will lend her extraordinary talent, all for the worthwhile cause of ending violence against women. The show is being hosted by her sister, Carol Daniel, president of The NGO Caribbean Development Foundation (The NCDF).
The NCDF was founded in 2007 to contribute to the development of the NGOs and other charitable organisations in the English-speaking Caribbean, with an emphasis on women's rights. In September 2010, the NCDF embarked on its violence against women programme, with the aim of strengthening and supporting organisations across the region, to shelter and assist women experiencing such violence in the home.
Carol, who lived and worked in Europe for ten years prior to 2007, said in order to achieve this goal, the NCDF would host its first Christmas event, proceeds from which would be used to deal with this social ill. Alice specialises in family law and practises in the family court. She said she was raised in a musical family, and grew up listening to all genre of music, but was more drawn to the classics and jazz.. She made her first appearance on a Trinidad stage ten years ago, at Lawyers under the Lights, a charity event hosted annually by the legal fraternity.
It was there she met Ralph Davies and Felix Roach, under whose tutorship, she has become an accomplished exponent of jazz. She has since performed at a few jazz clubs in New York. Alice will share the stage with an ensemble of veteran jazz musicians, including Davies, Roach, Wayne Guerra on keyboard, Errol Ince on trumpet, Gerald Charles on bass, Marvin De Gannes and Winston Matthews on drums, Kenneth Clarke, percussionist on congos, Russell Durity on guitar bass, and guitarist, Neil Payne.
