Saturday Religion Cyclists, a group of cycling enthusiasts who get together every Saturday morning and cycle from Diego Martin to various parts of Trinidad, did things a little differently last Saturday. While they cycled from their regular departure point, their destination and gear were very unusual.
The cyclists all wore Digicel Santa hats and other costumes, and made their way to the San Raphael RC School, to deliver some early morning Christmas cheer to the 88 pupils there. Part of the morning's treat was the arrival of Santa. Excitement filled the air as the children eagerly waited for the appearance of Saint Nick, who did not disappoint the youngsters. He entered the school yard with much gusto, ringing his bell, signaling the start of gift-giving. As it turned out no one had been "naughty," which meant each boy and girl received a gift from Santa and his helpers, with the cyclists and Digicel staffers lending a hand.
Among the activities was a presentation of much-needed sporting equipment to the school by the Saturday Religion Cyclists in conjunction with Digicel. On hand to receive it was the school's principal, Susan Boyce-Ruiz. "We are thankful to Digicel and the Saturday Religion Cyclists for bringing happiness into the lives of the children," Boyce-Ruiz said. The occasion was also used to present prizes to the cyclists for Best Dressed Female, which was copped by Sujen Edghill, and Best Dressed Male, which went to Everad Carter with his portrayal entitled Madame Kamla. Both winners received a BlackBerry 8520 from Digicel.
