Despite threats from the Port-of-Spain City Corporation to evict Phase II Pan Groove by December 31, come Boxing Night, the panyard will be the place where Trinbagonians will experience "the last big event," according to Sean Thomas, The Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago (Jatt) president.
Entitled "Jazzang II," the event will be held from 7 pm, presented by The Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago (Jatt) from 7 pm to midnight at Phase II's Hamilton Street, Woodbrook location.
Jazzang II will continue one of its missions in raising funds for JATT's Musical Scholarship Fund whereby creating more opportunities for artistes in need to further their studies in the genre of jazz.
Thomas said: "This year's concept for Jazzang II, apart from our drive to raise funds for our Musical Scholarship Fund, is to focus on the merging of our local talents collaborating with regional and international artistes while colouring our musical styles such as parang, calypso, soca, chutney and rapso with the underpinning of jazz harmonies, rhythms and sophisticated lines by jazz masters such as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dexter Gordon, to name a few.
"Jatt's events and programmes are set out to educate, develop, promote and preserve jazz in T&T, creating forums for musicians to share, create, perform and blossom on their instrument and as a human being." Jazzang II will showcase local and international artistes from the Jazz community such as Raf Robertson, Wayne Guerra, Billy Joe Saunders, Jeffrey Pattaysingh, Sean Thomas, Leah Lewis, Dane Gulston, Kelwyn Hutcheon, and Ed Epstein and Grant Langford from US.
From the parang community will come Alicia Jaggasar, and her group, 2010 National Parang champion and Best Tune of Choice winner, Los Alumnos de San Juan. In keeping with Jatt's aim to promote jazz education to our younger generation, this year's event will feature two youth groups-Diamond Vale Primary School Steel Ensemble and Las Estrellas del Este.
