BT Melodians Steel Orchestra of the UK, which is led by Trinidadian, Terrence "Terry" Noel, hosted its annual Christmas Concert/Awards Ceremony recently.This is the 23rd year the orchestra has held this event, honouring its progressive members and members of the society at large who have made invaluable contributions to the orchestra's continued success.
According to the "Gig List" supplied of the band's 2011 outings are calendar dates in April, for an appearance in Doha, Qatar, to commemorate the birthday of the British Monarch, at the British Embassy there and in June, to the British Embassy in Vienna, Austria, again to celebrate the birthday of the Queen of England.
Addressing the audience, new T&T High Commissioner to London, Garvin Nicholas congratulated the band on its achievements and urged members to always strive for high, notable ideals and to continue on its growth path. He cited the musical competence of the orchestra.
Following was the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Dr Neeraj Patil who cited the enormous strides the band is making in the Pan Education of pupils of the Sunny Hill School, where the band is actually based.Next was the turn of former head of the Metropolitan Police, Mike Fuller who expresses satisfaction at the bands continued progress and promised to highlight the public goodwill the band generates towards to its sponsor-BT Telecom.A good time was had by all.
