Carnival 2011 in Trinidad and Tobago is off to an energetic and spirited start! In anticipation of an exciting season, the Lydians in collaboration with the Normandie hotel will be offering a special event-a mélange of musical and performance art flavor incorporating a colorful blend of pan, mas, theater and a jammin' chorus line-all of the right elements of Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago.
A Carnival Callaloo will launch on March 1, at 8.30 pm, at The Normandie Hotel as a specially featured show in the line up of concerts Under the Trees at the Normandie. This concert will pay tribute to composer, arranger and steelpan performer, Ray Holman.
The show will prove to be an enjoyable evening of Carnival favourites with special performances by calypsonian Lord Superior, the Paramin Blue devils and traditional sailor mas by veterman mas man Ralph Dayette and the Mount Hope Connection. The Lydians will add special zest to the pot with a vibrant calypso chorus line with costumes by Glen Carvalho and musical arrangement by renowned Tobago folk arranger John Jacob.
New mas will also be in abundance as Carvalho presents his 2011 portrayal, The Nile. Pelham Goddard's recently reenergised band, Roots, will also take centre stage with special guests performers Bianca Hull, All Rounder, Dwayne O'Connor, Luta and Roger George. A special lagniappe by the energetic duo of Paul Noel and Cliffton Lewis-Regeneration Now-will incorporate select favourites from Carnival of yesteryear including a medley of Lord Kitchener's vintage classics.
