The prize distribution ceremony for the Flavorite Supreme Ice Cream National Schools Soca Monarch Competition, as well as the Play Whe International Groovy Soca Monarch and bmobile International Soca Monarch Competitions hosted by Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts, took place on Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of-Spain.The programme included performances by Aaron Duncan, second prize winner of the National Schools Soca Monarch Competition, and Cavel Gorden of Bishop's High School, Tobago.
Before the distribution of awards guests listened attentively as Lisa Agard, executive vice-president Mobile Services & vice-president legal of TSTT; Keenon, marketing manager, Flavorite Foods Ltd, and Mitra Mahabir, chairman, NLCB, brought greetings on behalf of the companies.Other speakers included Gregory Fernandez, special advisor to the chairman, Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts; Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Minister of Education, and Winston Peters, Minister of The Arts and Multiculturalism.Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, who was listed to deliver the feature address, was unavoidable absent.Before presenting the two million dollar cheque to Machel Montano, International Power Soca Monarch 2011, William Munro, chairman of Caribbean Prestige for the Performing Arts, presented a cheque to Minister Winston Peters for the Children's Life Fund.
