The third woman of African her­itage to cap­ture the Miss Uni­verse crown and the sec­ond Miss Uni­verse in his­to­ry from T&T, has kind­ly con­sent­ed to be the pa­tron of Jaz­zup The Run­way, sched­uled for May 29, at the Ch­aguara­mas Con­ven­tion Cen­tre Hall from 6 pm. Four of jazz's best mu­si­cians will be grac­ing the stage along­side some of T&T's top de­sign­ers and mod­els. T&T will get the op­por­tu­ni­ty to ex­pe­ri­ence tal­ents such as in­ter­na­tion­al­ly ac­claimed jazz vo­cal­ist Kim­mie Horne, niece of the leg­endary jazz vo­cal­ist and ac­tress, Lena Horne; New Or­leans top trom­bon­ist, Delfeayo Marsalis, broth­er of Wyn­ton and Bran­ford; sax­o­phon­ist, Ar­turo Tap­pin; and the Sean Thomas Trio.

These ace mu­si­cians will merge with five of T&T's hippest and most con­tro­ver­sial young de­sign­ers, such as Chris­t­ian Bou­caud, Shur­nel, Chiz L Mensware, Koko Karibi De­signs, and Off The Hook Dzigns. There will al­so be some sur­prise mod­els in store. Jazz up the Run­way is an an­nu­al event pro­duced by Sean Thomas and the Jazz Al­liance of Trinidad and To­ba­go (JATT), com­bin­ing lo­cal fash­ion de­sign­ers and jazz mu­si­cians si­mul­ta­ne­ous­ly on one stage.

The show aims to build stronger ties be­tween in­ter­na­tion­al and lo­cal jazz mu­si­cians with lo­cal fash­ion de­sign­ers and top mod­els. "The show is al­so build­ing to a point where it can pro­vide a fo­cal point in the tourism cal­en­dar for Trinidad and To­ba­go, with op­por­tu­ni­ties for a con­stant part­ner­ing with in­ter­na­tion­al tal­ents and in­sti­tu­tions with the best of T&T. "It is go­ing to be in­no­v­a­tive, so­phis­ti­cat­ed, and en­joy­able," Thomas said.
