The world-fa­mous Bhangra and Gid­dah Group, from Pun­jab, In­dia will give eight shows across Trinidad to mark the 166th In­di­an Ar­rival Day, May 30, at var­i­ous cen­tres, ac­cord­ing to Madan Mo­han Shar­ma, di­rec­tor, Ma­hat­ma Gand­hi Cen­tre for Cul­tur­al Co-op­er­a­tion. Last week Shar­ma said: "Bhangra ishigh­ly com­plex with ac­ro­bat­ic move­ments, de­pict­ing spon­ta­neous vigour and vi­tal­i­ty, but now it has caught the imag­i­na­tion of the world and has be­come a ma­jor form of en­ter­tain­ment."

The group forms part of the In­di­an High Com­mis­sion progamme to cel­e­brate in­di­an Ar­rival Day in Trinidad and To­ba­go. Some of the por­tray­als in­clude: folk singing songs rep­re­sent­ing the rur­al com­mu­ni­ties; jhum­mar, which is a dance of ec­sta­sy and the hap­pi­ness of man; jind­hua, a love show­ing dance. Shar­ma said: "This group will cer­tain­ly thrill au­di­ences dur­ing their sev­er­al per­for­mances."
