What do Batman, Superman, Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks all have in common? The answer is, they all are heroes to many but come next Friday a new cast of heroes will be on the scene as ISLANDpeople Mas launches their presentation for Carnival 2012 Heroes. Westopia, Chaguaramas, has been given as the location of the secret lair from which 13 heroes will emerge at midnight to the delight of thousands of curious onlookers and mas enthusiasts. This much anticipated event will see ISLANDpeople Mas (IPM) produce yet another launch that is full of the creativity, vibrancy and trademark fun for which they are widely known. Their past launch events have featured a fair share of unique ideas being executed with great excitement.
In 2008, their presentation Heaven on Earth was launched with the models descending from the skies in specially created baskets hoisted by cranes; and in 2010, aliens and glow in the dark body suits created an interesting combination at launch of Shades of the Universe. "We always strive to do things differently and really create a show that will impress people with our creativity," commented bandleader Dane Lewis. "Our themes are used to highlight issues that we see important in the world and we believe that based on all that's happening these days, the world needs heroes. A hero doesn't have to be as grand as you may think. It can be the guy teaching football to kids in the community; as this could potentially keep them away from a life of crime."
With the tagline "it's in all of us" ISLANDpeople Mas intends to use their presentation to ignite the inner hero that lives in their masqueraders. "We want people to come out and have fun and be entertained but we also want them to leave with a renewed sense of responsibility to the world," added Lewis. Limited advance tickets are now available at the ISLANDpeople Mas Camp, corner O'Connor and Warren Streets in Woodbrook; IF House, corner Tragarete Road and Murray Street, and from committee members.
