Vybz Kartel, the new face of dancehall music, is in T&T this weekend. Performing at a popular night club in San Fernando tomorrow, he promises the entire Empire family would be on stage. Kartel was asked on SLAM 100.5 live stream to describe himself in one word. The word he used was “Enigmatic.” He also described himself as versatile and his colleagues agree. Asked for a brief freestyle, Kartel said he wasn’t supposed to do any performances until showtime. Nonetheless, he decided to give his fans what they asked for. Followers and fans from all over the country tuned in to SLAM 100.5’s stream yesterday. People were ‘BBMing’ (Black Berry Messaging), writing on SLAM’s Facebook page and calling in with questions and requests for the dancehall superstar. Kartel also performs tonight at the Wet Fete event which is part of the Carib Great Fete weekend in Tobago. He said he loves coming to Trinidad. When asked whether he had tried the local cuisine he and his companions admitted that they hadn’t yet, but would love to try a roti or some doubles. Kartel was accompanied by some members of the Portmore Empire group - Gaza Indu, Gaza Slim, Shawn Storm and Sheba all of whom will be performing at the Sting Nightclub tomorrow.
Check SLAM’s Facebook page for more info on the event and for ticket distributors.
