Bunji set for The Garden this Friday
Rated as one of the Caribbean's most skilful lyricists, Bunji Garlin is expected to make an explosive appearance at the much talked After Work Lime at The Garden Sanctuary, Macoya, today. As part of the Summer Of Stars Campaign, Bunji is expected to showcase his charisma and versatility in an upclose and personal unplugged performance. With his phenomenal lyrical abilities and astonishing vocal flair fans could be prepared for an unstoppable force that mesmerises audiences with his opening lines.
Hailed as a voice calling out in the wilderness on behalf of the common man, Bunji is one of the few artistes to have successfully bridged the generation gap as well as broken through the social strata, creating songs that explore and address a myriad of issues including crime, discrimination, prejudice, poverty, sexual deviation and political pandering. Of course Bunji also explores the lighter side of living through his songs created just for dancing and romancing the women. His unique lyrical escapades into the realm of romance and sexuality earned him the moniker, “Bunji Garlin, the girls dem Darlin',” and at the same turn he was dubbed “the Fireman” because of his claim that he has come to burn all evil with his scorching lyrics.
Bunji lives in the hope that his songs will touch hearts and change lives around the universe, playing his role in bringing all of mankind to appreciate Soca and Ragga Soca. As far as Bunji Garlin is concerned, he has thus far only brushed the surface of what he has set out to achieve musically. His desire is to see the soca music of Trinidad and Tobago gain respect on a universal level, taking its place as the most powerful and infectious genre. VP Records will provide this platform of world-wide distribution on his upcoming album—Global. It is another step towards achieving those goals as Garlin has stepped up to a higher level musically. Join the journey and be revived.
Despite the strong Jamaican accents that permeates his recordings, Bunji Garlin is all Trinidadian; Born Ian Alvarez, he started singing at the Arima Comprehensive School. When he completed his studies there, he started chanting under the name Little Bounty as his style was close to that of Jamaican dancehall star Bounty Killa.
When asked about the definition of his name, Bunji Garlin cleverly responded: “Since Bunji is taken from the bungee-rope which is flexible but unbreakable and often used in death-defying stunts and Garlin is a gun with powerful shots, I’m the girls them garlin and when it comes to clash, no matter what they send at me, I will always bounce back.”
Named Best International Calypso/Soca Entertainer by the Festival of Life International Reggae and World Music Awards, Bunji Garlin delivers a strong and distinctive voice, riveting audiences and leaving them wanting more, immediately creating fans.
This world class performer’s lyrical renditions, infectious energy and honest interpretations make for a moving experience. Signed to IP Music International Ltd. in 1999, has successfully recorded hundreds songs and released numerous albums. The talented Trinidadian artiste has become the peoples champion and the ultimate recitalist. He has imposingly taken Soca, Reggae and Hip-Hop and created a fusion that has enabled him to cross the world music stage with great majesty and vibrancy. Bunji’s professional career dates back to 1998 when he entered the Reggae Soca domain of music in T&T. Within months of his first appearance he won the hearts of cavorting masqueraders and audiences everywhere, while simultaneously nourishing the minds of those who would examine his potent lyrical content.
When contacted the promoters of Trini Style indicated, “Bunji music has been a personal favourite of The Garden patrons. “We have waited patiently for an open date in his extremely busy schedule to have the superstar grace us with his presence. We have spared no expense to ensure the After Work Lime is an experience and not just an event.” He added: “We have only just begun to showcase the superstars of our country and who is a better launch pad, the Fire Man himself.
