The clouds burst with honoured guests last Saturday when new mas band Fantasy Carnival unveiled its maiden presentation for Carnival 2012 titled Book of Angels, held at 02 Park, Chaguaramas. The event was simply divine. Beauty lifted from the pages of the band's look-book and took on human form in a runway showcase that was steamy, caused by models who were unquestionably sexy, who in turn enticed patrons in an atmosphere that was pure fun. Parking along the Western Main Road, Chaguaramas, was at a premium as the party mob converged at the located to witness the revelation.
First class presentation
It was just around half past the midnight hour when the Book of Angels opened and the beauty and splendour contained within gripped an eagerly-awaiting public. Patrons angled themselves for the best possible view, while some media photographers had to re-position themselves in hope of improving their vantage points. Cherubim, Angels, Powers, Thrones, Rulers, Principalities, Virtues, Dominions, Authorities, Seraphim, Arch Angels and Ophanim were the 12 sections on offer. Surely, there could not have been any complaints about the excellent grouping of female models of varied ethnicities with great torsos and wicked curves. With their innate appetite for merrymaking they added to the terrific vibes.
Designers flourish
It's the third time in four years that designers of mas Richard Dookhdeen and Anthony Hall have lent their creative magic to new band with wondrous results. The depiction of the mas from the Book of Angels stayed true to the theme and commanded the adulation and admiration of attendees. The Richard and Anthony Production seal was responsible for the portrayal The Spice Route from mas band Spice three Carnivals ago.
YUMA (Young Upwardly Mobile Adults) entered the Carnival realm in 2011 with a portrayal titled Zodeak which the designing men conceptualised. The band was oversubscribed and was caused to pass its 2,500 ceiling of masqueraders. In their latest contribution to works of mas they have imagined a world where angels and mortals co-exists. Again, the response to their genius had fun-lovers wishing they could fast forward the calendar to National Carnival Bands Association (NCBA) Parade of Bands.
A production coup
There is no doubt that the world premier of Fantasy Carnival and its 2012 portrayal of Book of Angels wowed. But in retrospect, no one should express surprise that the production blueprint was to perfection and the event was an oversubscribed entertainment triumph. While the name Fantasy Carnival may be new to the ear, the team behind the band had a somewhat flawless history with respect to event management. There was Fantasy J'Ouvert. Photos from this year's Carnival showed reigning International Power (Soca) Monarch and Road March Monarch Machel Montano having a fun time with this bunch. Additionally, the outfit boast of crowd favoured concept parties in Carnival and during the post festival season.
The atmosphere
Even with the free drinks concept to toast the birth of this new band, no one could claim to not have been approached by "angels" offering tequila shots. Yes. Beauties fluttered throughout the venue in their costumes urging patrons to share in more drink and consequently, lift the celebrations. The mob that gathered at 02 Park has been partying together with such frequency that it had to be gathering of friends.
The foreword in Fantasy Carnival's high-quality and superbly conceptualised look-book spoke about an engagement of angels and mortals for centuries, which many believed was the first fantasy known to the living.
Angels, it was said, had long fantasised about the alluring beauty of mankind and mortals have been eternally enthralled with their divinity. This insatiable attraction formed the mutual basis for angels to walk among ordinary men. Principals of Fantasy Carnival were reported fascinated by this story of power, love, admiration and magnificence that has transcended time. The band's objective was simple: to embody the richness of service and excellence that was known in the Carnival experience.
