New Trini artistes and entertainers seem to be popping up from all corners of the country and that's a wonderful thing.It means that locally there are a number of people whose talents drive them, empower them and bring them joy. When they step out into the spotlight, it simply means they want to share that joy with the rest of the world.Shade "Mischief" Thomas is a 26-year-old entertainer from Tacarigua, Trinidad. He loved music since childhood and even while enrolled at the El Dorado Secondary school, Shade told us, "I used to sing all those Beenie Man songs word for word."I really liked Beenie Man." His style is unmistakable. In fact, Shade just can't be missed. In any crowd, he stands out and this he admits comes as a result of his love for the Jamaican culture, music and style.Youth coupled with a love for dancehall, has made this rising artiste an embraced newcomer on the scene by many young music lovers.
He's only been singing professionally for the past two years but within that time, Shade's worked with local producers, Mr Spine of HolyHouse Productions, Darryl Braxton, Studio 53 and most recently, he's teamed up newcomer Whiz Kid of Malabar, Arima."When I left school, I decided to start writing my own songs. I decided to take it seriously," he explained. Now, music is his full time career of choice and for that reason, Shade's not giving up on his dream of breaking through in a big way.
Facebook sceneleads to single
This past June and July, two tracks were recorded and released by the young singer. He recorded Facebook and Summertime and pushed them out via online mediums and at radio stations across the island.He told us that so far, he's heard Facebook playing on the radio, and online, he's been getting a lot of love with Summertime. In explaining the concepts behind both tracks, Shade said, "Facebook is a story about a particular scenario with a girl I met on Facebook. It was written two years ago, but I only recorded and released it this year.He said Summertime was self-explanatory. "Summertime is all about the things we enjoy in the summer-going to the beach, pool parties and other things."Shade collaborated with new female artiste Nikki B who hails from San Juan, on the second track and explained that he's been working with her, writing songs for her and assisting in her growth.
