The number one Bollywood movie of 1977-Amar, Akbar, Anthony-will be staged by D C Shell Theatre on September 17 and 18 at the CLR James Auditorium of Cipriani College of Labour, on Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Valsayn. This was the movie that launched the career of Amitabh Bachchan and it has been adapted by the Crazy Catholic for Trini audiences. The play tells the story of three brothers who were separated at a young age, growing up in three different homes. Amar is raised by a police inspector in a Hindu home; Akbar grows up with a tailor in a Muslim home and Anthony is raised by a priest in a Christian home.
Local audiences are in for a treat as the adapted version features exciting dances, comedy and local references. This is the fifth Bollywood play to be directed by the Crazy Catholic, who introduced the genre to local theatre fans in 2004 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He followed this up with Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham in 2005, Chalte Chalte in 2006 and Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2008. Amar, Akbar, Anthony features a 19-member cast and is adapted and directed by the Crazy Catholic. Lighting is done by Celia Wells; costuming and set design by Cindy Rodriguez; sound by Giselle Serrette, effects by Dese Simon; and choreography by Rene and Andre Arneaud.
