Pa­trons of the T&T film fes­ti­val have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to aid in re­lief ef­forts in re­sponse to the re­cent fer­ry dis­as­ter in Zanz­ibar, East Africa. Ac­cord­ing to in­for­ma­tion from the T&TFF, tick­et pro­ceeds from the Zanz­ibar In­ter­na­tion­al Film Fes­ti­val (ZIFF) film screen­ings dur­ing the fes­ti­val in Trinidad will go to Saidia Zanz­ibar, a re­lief or­gan­i­sa­tion set up to pro­vide re­lief and sup­port for vic­tims of the dis­as­ter and their fam­i­lies. On Sep­tem­ber 10 a fer­ry turned over in the wa­ters of Zanz­ibar. Of the 800 peo­ple on board, ap­prox­i­mate­ly 200 lost their lives.

Screen­ings from the ZIFF will take place at the lit­tle Carib The­atre on Sep­tem­ber 29. Pa­trons who wish to make con­tri­bu­tions can take ad­van­tage of a do­na­tion box that will be placed in the foy­er of the Lit­tle Carib The­atre dur­ing the fes­ti­val's run there from Sep­tem­ber 25 to Oc­to­ber 1. A To­ba­go col­lec­tion will al­so be tak­en up at the Calder Hall Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre on Oc­to­ber 1. All pro­ceeds col­lect­ed will be pre­sent­ed to ZIFF on be­half of Saidia Zanz­ibar.
