Have you ever felt like a stranger in your own life? In the movie Abduction, Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner) learns that this feeling can have some dangerous truth to it. In address to the male population-don't associate this movie with the Twilight series. Even though I am well aware that many heterosexual men still enjoy the Twilight saga, I'm just saying that for those who don't-don't stereotype the film because of its starring actor. I am also aware that many females (mostly teenaged girls) may view the movie simply because of Taylor Lautner, but that is only to be expected.
A synopsis
Abduction is about a boy named Nathan who is in his late teens. Besides being a champion on his high-school wrestling team and riding a motorcycle, he is a very average teenager. His mother and father love him and he seems to have a very normal family life, with the exception of having anger problems. For these problems he sees a shrink-Dr Bennet (Sigourney Weaver). One day while working on a school project with his long-time neighbour and crush Karen (Lily Collins), he discovers a baby photo of himself on a missing persons Web site. This is where the conspiracy begins. If his real name is Steven Price, then who are the people in his home? Who are his real parents and who is really on his side? There are the people who he contacts on the Web site and then there is the CIA-who should he trust? The CIA intercepted a phone call that he made to the police (which is of course incredibly strange since they knew his name before he said it.) Even more suspiciously, Dr Bennet shows up to tell him not to trust anyone but her.
My Critique
I enjoyed Abduction. The concept intrigued me and as a film it was decently done (in my opinion.) By no means was the concept a new one, but the film-makers succeeded in making it as original as possible. I know I said not to associate the movie with Twilight, but in fact, it is in the same league in terms of quality. It may not be a vampire/love film, but it is still not much more than a teenaged action/thriller with romance scenes. Generally, Abduction wouldn't be enjoyed by more mature audiences as much as it would be enjoyed by teens.
