It's count­down time to Mi­a­mi Car­ni­val 2011 but Trin­bag­o­ni­ans got a jump start last week­end as Trinidad and To­ba­go's Re­pub­lic Day was cel­e­brat­ed at Cen­tral Broward Park in Mi­a­mi. Mi­grant Tri­ni got an au­then­tic taste of home as JMC 3Veni, fea­tur­ing lead vo­cal­ist KI and his fa­ther and band leader Veeren­dra Per­sad rocked the venue with the spicy sounds of their home­land.

Al­so adding to the ex­cite­ment and fun were pop­u­lar ca­lyp­son­ian Crazy, Cham­pa Chameli Dance Com­pa­ny, Petrotrin Tas­sa group, the Holis­tic dancers and mem­bers of the Flori­da band Di­men­sionz, and US-based Narat Shak­ti Mul­ti­cul­tur­al Dancers. The par­ty was a bar­gain in that or­gan­is­ers charged pa­trons a mere US$1.50 to en­ter.
